Supervisor search is scoped by three inputs: university, department, and research area. Using all three keeps results focused and cuts down on irrelevant matches.
University
Start with the university you plan to apply to. This narrows results to faculty at that institution, which is the fastest way to build a realistic shortlist.
Department
Add the specific department or graduate program. This keeps results inside the right academic unit (e.g. Computer Science vs. Electrical Engineering) and avoids mismatched labs.
Research area
Use a concise research area or set of keywords. Scholr uses this to rank supervisors by relevance. More precise terms lead to better matches.
Tips
- If you are exploring multiple departments, run separate searches for each department.
- Use the same phrasing you would use to describe your work in a CV or SOP.
