The AI critique tool analyses your documents and provides structured feedback across five dimensions.
Running a critique
Open any document in the editor and click Get critique. The analysis takes 20–40 seconds. Your usage quota for critiques is shown in the toolbar — Explorer plan users have a limited number per month; paid plan users have higher limits.
What is evaluated
Critique scores documents on:
- Research specificity — are research interests and experiences described concretely, or in vague generalities?
- Faculty fit — does the document name specific faculty and explain the connection to their work?
- Evidence of capability — is there specific evidence of research experience (projects, publications, methods)?
- Narrative coherence — does the document tell a clear, consistent story?
- Clarity and concision — is the writing clear, direct, and appropriately concise?
The overall score
The overall score (0–100) is a weighted average across the five dimensions. Scores above 75 indicate a document that is ready for submission with minor polish. Scores below 60 indicate structural issues that need substantive revision.
Acting on feedback
Each dimension includes specific, actionable feedback. Work through the lowest-scoring dimensions first — small improvements in weak areas have more impact than refining sections that are already strong.
