Scholr generates personalised cold emails to supervisors using your profile and the supervisor's research profile. Here's how to get the best output.
Before you generate
The quality of the generated email depends directly on the completeness of your profile. Before generating, make sure you have:
- At least three research interest keywords
- A description of your most recent or most relevant research project (this goes in the experience or publications section)
- Your target degree selected
Generating the email
From a saved supervisor's profile, click Generate outreach email. Scholr will use the supervisor's research description, recent publications, and your profile to produce a personalised draft. This takes 10–20 seconds.
What the email includes
The generated email follows the structure that produces the highest response rates:
- A specific hook referencing the supervisor's research by name
- A brief description of your background and relevant project
- An explicit connection between your work and theirs
- A specific ask (call or further conversation)
Reviewing before sending
Always read the generated email carefully before sending. The AI sometimes gets specifics wrong — particularly around paper titles or research descriptions. Edit anything that doesn't read naturally or that mischaracterises your work. A slightly imperfect AI draft that you've personalised will outperform a polished template every time.
